I was very fortunate to have attended Patrick McCord’s film-writing workshop. It’s better than NYU! His unique method activated my imagination and boosted my creativity. Dr. McCord’s range of reference is impressively wide, and he is a compassionate and witty and supportive teacher. I watch films differently now and can see that this analysis is helping me to think more about structure in my own work. Whether you are working on a screen play or think it might be something you want to do, Patrick McCord’s techniques and understanding of the mind and its creative process will get your ideas onto paper and–who knows? –perhaps onto the screen.

The College Essay with Marcia Logan
“Watching my kids, and my friends, slog through the college application process led me to satirize the whole thing in fiction as a kind of twisted therapy,” she said. “But I realized that the writing part of the application could be therapeutic for students as well. If applicants take a little time to dig deep, the college essay can help them crystallize their goals and determine which schools are best for them. It doesn’t have to be the last minute misery and make-or-break stress that most kid’s experience, but it can be creative, even liberating. Ultimately, it’s the key step in a process to get admitted to a college that’s a perfect fit. And with a little help, kids can get started on the right track to college writing.”
Your application essay is 80% creative and only 20% technique. Get your creativity flowing, connect with who you really are, and learn the truth about the essay in our brainstorming sessions. Get tools, truth and inspiration. Then sign up for some one-on-one time. Marcia Logan will help you keep on task and also help with the common application form. This is an affordable, effective and efficient way to GET IT DONE!

If you’re working on a big book or big screenplay, you can sometimes feel isolated and out of touch. This workshop is focused on helping experienced writers working on full-length projects. The workshop venue is a good place for airing ideas, touting discoveries, and getting support with schedule or structure. Come in out of the cold.
Writing sample and project outline required.
Coming this FALL: The Art of Storytelling: Tell Your Story and Discover! (adults) With Connie Rockman
Saturday, September 25 10am-1pm The stories of ages past, the folklore handed down through oral tradition, informs the narrative of our personal lives. Learn how to present yourself in front of a group and tell a story with expression, creativity, and skill. This is an experiential workshop, so come prepared to share stories in a supportive small group.
Saturday, November 6th 10am- 1pm Continuation of 9/25 workshop but may be taken separately. We will explore the ways we tell the stories of our lives, learn how to frame and craft our own personal narratives based on the structure of stories that have come down through oral tradition. Come prepared with an idea for a personal story you would like to work on and/or folk tale that is particularly meaningful to you. We will work on oral presentation of these stories.
